Three players record double-doubles

BIRTHRIGHT — The No. 12 North Hopkins Lady Panthers welcomed the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles to W.S. Long Gymnasium Friday for a matchup that would determine who would be in first place through the first half of district. In a hard fought game where both teams battled back and forth, the Lady Panthers managed to edge out a five-set victory, taking control of first place in District 12-2A.

The first set would see the Lady Panthers play well from the beginning, while the Lady Eagles struggled to find their rhythm. The Lady Panthers won the first set 25-14, taking the lead.

The second set was hard fought one, as both teams went back and forth trading scores. In the end, the Lady Panthers won the second set 25-23, increasing their lead to 2-0.

The third set was another intense battle, as each team continued to play strong. Despite a good fight from the Lady Panthers, the Lady Eagles would win the third set 25-22, cutting the score to 2-1 and forcing a fourth set.

The fourth set would see the Lady Eagles take their game to a new level, as they tried to keep the game going. The Lady Eagles won the fourth set 25-15, evening the score at 2-2 and setting up a decisive fifth set.

The final set was another intense battle, as each team battled to win the game. When the dust finally settled, the Lady Panthers were able to pull off an 18-16 win in the fifth set, halting the Lady Eagles’ comeback attempt and capping off a five-set win.

Lucy Conner would lead the way with a 26-dig, 25-assist double-double, adding five kills and two aces. Eden Lewis recorded a 20-dig, 16-assist double- double, also recording three kills, one ace, and one block.

The double-doubles didn’t stop there, as Hadlee Hrabal finished with a 13dig, 10-kill double-double, adding two aces. Macey Hoelscher led in kills with 19, adding seven digs and one ace.

Daylee Fite would tally 12 digs. Sarah Attaway came up with 10 digs, nine kills, two aces, and one assist, falling one kill shy of a double-double. Stevanna Buchanan recorded nine digs.

Harley Vaughn finished with seven digs and two aces. Other contributors to the win include Cadence Money with three kills, one block, and one dig, and Evie Fuentes-Perry with one dig.

With this win, the Lady Panthers improved to 5-0 in district and 25-7 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, welcoming the Cumby Lady Trojans to W.S. Long Gymnasium.
