MILLER GROVE- The Miller Grove Lady Hornets hosted Savoy Friday for their homecoming game. Miller Grove was looking to stay hot after defeating Ector earlier in the week.

Lauren Bullard got things started for the Lady Hornets, making a layup just two seconds into the game to take a quick 2-0 lead. The two teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, but Miller Grove ended the quarter on a 13-4 run to take a 21-11 lead at the end of the frame. With time running out in the period, Jorja Bessonett made a steal and found teammate Kaley Dorantes open for a layup at the buzzer.

The offense for both teams slowed down in the second quarter, with the two teams combining for just 10 total points in the frame. Miller Grove was able to hold Savoy to just two points, while scoring eight points of their own, to lead 29-13 at the end of the first half.

Bessonett sparked the Lady Hornets offense back to life in the third quarter, scoring on an open goal under the basket and forcing a steal to find Bullard open for a layup in the first few possessions. Lainy Burnett made the final point of the frame, knocking down a free throw in the final minute to push the lead to 44-22 entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Hornets sat their starters for a majority of the final frame, but still only allowed Savoy to score two points the period. Adding another 11 points of their own, the Lady Hornets cruised to a 55-24 win.

Bullard was the leading scorer for Miller Grove, finishing with a game-high 16 points. Eight of Bullard’s 16 points were during the first quarter as the Lady Hornets created separation.
