ALBA — The No. 6 Como-Pickton Lady Eagles extended their winning streak to 12 games Tuesday following a 3-1 victory over the No. 17 Alba-Golden Lady Panthers. In a game that was largely a pitcher’s duel, the Lady Eagles’ offense managed to make the key plays needed to win, leading to the victory.

The first inning saw both teams go down in order, as both pitchers played well. The second inning didn’t see much action either, as both defenses continued to flex their muscles.

The third inning was another scoreless on, as both offenses continued to struggle. In the fourth inning, the Lady Eagles finally broke the scoreless tie when Bella Romeo scored run, giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Eagles scored again in the top of the fifth inning when Lexie Rainey scored a run, extending Como-Pickton’s lead to 2-0. The Lady Panthers would get on the board with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning, trimming the score to 2-1.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles added onto their lead when Addi Monk scored a run, bringing the score to 3-1. From there, the Lady Eagles’ defense shut down the Lady Panthers’ offense, preserving a 3-1 victory.

As a team, the Lady Eagles batted 6 for 28 (.214) from the plate. Gracie Thompson led with two hits, while Journey Brumley, Monk, Rainey, and Romero all added one hit each. Monk, Rainey, and Romero would score one run each.

Rainey picked up the win in the circle. Across seven innings, she tallied nine strikeouts, allowing only six hits, two walks, and one earned run.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved to 2-0 in district and 21-2 overall. They resumed action Friday, welcoming the Rivercrest Lady Rebels to Como-Pickton High School.
