LONGVIEW—The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Longview Tuesday for their first in a pair of district matches this season. The Lady Cats entered the night on a four-game winning streak, all of which they won by scores of 3-0. The last time they lost a set was Oct. 2.

Things looked tough for Sulphur Springs early on, as they lost the opening set by a score of 25-13. Bouncing back in the second set, the Lady Cats were able to take what was the closest set on the night, 25-21.

Longview answered back immediately, taking the third set, 25-18. Needing to win the next two sets to get the win, the Lady Cats won the fourth set handily, 25-16. In the fifth and final set, the Lady Cats took the lead and never looked back, winning the set 15-10 to extend their winning streak to five games.

Brooklyn Burnside had a huge game for Sulphur Springs, leading the team in both kills (13) and blocks (12). Burnside also had a pair of digs and one ace.

The next leading attackers for the Lady Cats were Addisyn Wall and Nylah Lindley. Wall had eight kills and seven digs, while Lindley had seven kills, three blocks and two digs.

Junior Peyton Hammack had a great all-around game, leading the team in both assists with 28 and digs with 15. Fellow junior Parris Pickett was behind her with 14 digs. Pickett also had four kills and three assists.

The Lady Cats had a great defensive game, getting more contributions from Laney Hurst and Mali Maeker. Hurst finished the game with eight digs and two aces, while Maeker had six digs.

Other contributors for Sulphur Springs were Kaslyn Hurley, who had four kills and three blocks, and freshman Kinslei Smallwood, who had two kills and two digs.

The Lady Cats will return home Tuesday for a game against Texas High. The freshman team is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity to follow. Sulphur Springs is currently undefeated at home with a record of 6-0.
