PALESTINE- The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Palestine Tuesday, Dec. 22 for a nondistrict match.

Rebekah Stanley got the scoring started for Sulphur Springs, scoring on an assist from Haylee Shultz with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. Shultz picked up a second assist on a goal from Janine Yamaguchi to take an early 2-0 lead.

Shultz and Stanley linked up for another goal early in the second half to take a 3-0 lead, before Shultz scored a goal of her own, on an assist from Emma Romero late in the game. Palestine finally answered back with a goal of their own, but it was too late, and the Lady Cats won by a final score of 4-1.

“We played well today. We out-possessed our opponent and created more chances,” coach Javier Aguayo said. “These girls are starting to look better each day. We are missing some key pieces due to injury, but we have some girls stepping up to the plate.”

The Sulphur Springs junior varsity also picked up a win, taking the game

1-0 on an unassisted goal from Harley Archer.

“It’s a young JV team that needs to build chemistry and confidence,” Aguayo said. “We have a very athletic group of girls that just need to continue to work on the fundamentals.”

Sulphur Springs returns home Saturday, Jan. 2 for their alumni game which is set to begin at 2 p.m.
