Lady Bears record consecutive victories

Stanley records consecutive doubledoubles

The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears began their regular season Monday. In a match of two Hopkins County schools, the Lady Bears traveled to North Hopkins High School to take on the North Hopkins Lady Panthers. The Lady Bears would record a 50-31 victory.

Head coach Zandra Peyton said that it has been fun to watch the team pick up where they left off from last season.

“They did a great job of creating space and drawing fouls, which is something I set as a goal for the game,” Peyton said. “It’s amazing to watch the team go from one sport to the next and play so efficiently with only a little gym time.”

Most players haven’t gotten a lot of practice in due the Lady Bears’ volleyball team making a deep playoff run.

Skylar Stanley recorded a double-double with 21 points and 20 rebounds. Emma Neal was second in points with 10 while also adding four rebounds.

Other scorers include Bailey Neal with eight, Kaitlyn Brock with six, Tori Raine with three, and Bre-Anna Stanley with two.

The following day, the Lady Bears welcomed the Christian Home Educators of Sulphur Springs (CHESSS) Lady Knights to Sulphur Bluff High School. The Lady Bears continued their winning ways with a 65-29 victory.

The first quarter was dominated by Sulphur Bluff, as they held a 17-9 lead at its conclusion. The Lady Bears began to pull away in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Knights 21-7 to go up 38-16 at halftime.

The Bears continued to dominate in the third quarter, going on a 17-7 scoring run to extend their lead to 55-23. Sulphur Bluff finished the job by outscoring the Lady Knights 10-6 in the fourth quarter to close out a 65-29 victory.

Peyton stated that she was pleased with how the team played during the game and was proud of each player.

“I was able to get all the girls playing time,” Peyton said. “Each girl brings something unique and special to the game.”

Stanley recorded another double-double with 33 points and 28 rebounds. Raine also tallied double-digit points with 13 while also adding two assists and two steals.

Other scorers include Brock with eight, Bailey Neal with six, Emma Neal with three, and Trista Flowers with two.

The Lady Bears next game is Tuesday, when they host the Como-Pickton Lady Eagles.
