Hornets win big in home blowout

The Miller Grove Hornets hosted the Saltillo Lions Tuesday for the first part of their home and home series against each other this week.

The Hornets started the game by holding the Lions scoreless in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, they posted four runs to get out to a quick 4-0 lead.

Holding the Lions scoreless in the second inning as well, the Hornets kept the bats rolling, adding another seven runs to their total. The Lions bounced back, getting on the board with their first and only run of the game in the third inning.

With the score 11-1 entering the bottom of the third, Miller Grove added another pair of runs to push the score to 13-1. Neither team scored in the fourth inning, and the Hornets put the game away after holding Saltillo scoreless in the top of the fifth inning to complete the game.

Jagger Qualls was the winning pitcher for the Hornets, throwing three innings and allowing just one run. Riley Hasten finished the game, throwing two shutout innings. Qualls and Hasten also had good day’s at the plate, with Qualls going 1-1 with a single and a pair of hit by pitches. Hasten went 2-3 with a pair of singles, an RBI and a walk.

Miller Grove and Saltillo will play each other again Thursday in Saltillo. The game will start at noon.
