HONEY GROVE AT COMO-PICKTON

Como-Pickton has the biggest challenge of the season when they take on District 6-2A Division I leader Honey Grove. The Warriors are 8-0 for the year, having scored 374 points while allowing 90.

In district play, the Warriors shut out Wolfe City, 26-0, and defeated Boles, 62-0.

The Eagles lost their first three games falling to Grand Saline, Detroit and Whitehouse. Como-Pickton then won 26-0 against Overton, then defeated Hawkins, 26-8. The Eagles edged Trenton, 24-23, and clipped Boles, 16-14.

Honey Grove is picked to win by 37 points Friday, Oct. 25 at Ron Heflin Field.

CUMBY OPEN

“We are 5-3 on the season. We lost to Wolfe City, 6-2, Honey Grove, 8-0, and Muenster, 6-2. They were all good teams, and we were in all the games. We have to be able to win a couple we shouldn’t in the next two months to get where we want to be. I think we have a very special team this year. We have a very tight-knit locker room, and our kids play hard for the guy next to them,” said Tom Dracos, Cumby head football coach.

“We’re glad to have the week off to get back to healthy and spending a ton of time on fundamentals. It is always good to be able to work hard on things that we overlook with game planning some time,” the coach said.

Dracos said he has been impressed by the leadership of team captains Elijah Pahcheka and Colby Lindsey.

“Those two guys are a big reason for how well our season is going. They do a great job of keeping focus and pushing their teammates. They both practice 100 mph; they expect and demand their teammates to do so as well. These two young men are special and are going to be great leaders in society,” Dracos said.
