Carrillo earns 400th victory with SS
TEXARKANA — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats picked up their sixth consecutive win Friday following a 17-0 route of the Liberty-Eylau Lady Leopards. Throughout the game, the Lady Wildcats outplayed the Lady Leopards at every opportunity, leading to a shutout.
This win would also be notable for another reason, as head coach David Carrillo earned his 400th victory as the Lady Wildcats' head coach.
The first inning set the tone early on, as the Lady Wildcats would make their presence felt with three runs. Emerson Thompson scored the first run of the game to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Later on, Reese Ragan launched a three-run home run, where Bayler Boatman also scored, to extend the lead to 3-0 before their turn ended.
In the second inning, the Lady Wildcats would go on a tear, scoring eight runs. Abbey Goldsmith scored first to help extend their lead to 4-0.
Later on, Allison Frazier and Niya Yancy both scored, bringing the score to 6-0. Emerson Thompson and Nicole Higgins were the next two to score, as the lead now stood at 8-0.
Brailie Blevins would score next to make the score 9-0. On the following at-bat, Ragan blasted a solo home run, bringing the score to 10-0.
Claire Thompson would add another run before their turn ended, bringing the Lady Wildcats’ lead to 11-0.
The Lady Wildcats continued to dominate in the third inning, adding on six more runs. Higgins, Blevins, Boatman, Ragan, Claire Thompson, and Yancy all scored, as the score now stood at 17-0. After the Lady Leopards were held scoreless in the bottom of the third inning, the game was over, as the Lady Wildcats polished off a 17-0 win.
As a team, the Lady Wildcats batted 12 for 22 (.545) from the plate. Hannah Speed would lead the way, going a perfect 3/3. Frazier, Higgins, and Ragan came up with two hits each, while Blevins, Claire Thompson, and Emerson Thompson added one hit each.
Ragan finished as the leading scorer with three runs. Blevins, Boatman, Higgins, Claire Thompson, Emerson Thompson, and Yancy all scored two runs each, while Frazier and Goldsmith added one run each.
Speed earned the victory in the circle. Across three innings, she struck out eight batters, allowing only two walks and one hit.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 5-0 in district and 13-7-2 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, welcoming the Paris Lady Wildcats to Ladycat Park.
