It’s been a week since Groundhog Day, and according to a popular Pennsylvania groundhog, spring will come early because Feb. 2 was cloudy and Phil did not see his shadow at Gobbler’s Knob.

I have always believed that Texas should make the headlines using our ofcial mammal, the armadillo. We could even have held the reveal at Gobbler’s Knob, one of a couple dozen now-obscure communities in Delta County. But scientically, that’s o 3the table because although armadillos do burrow in winter, they cannot drop their body temperature and heart rate like true hibernators. So, Lubbock gets the glory because it has Prairie Dog Pete, who has predicted spring’s arrival since 1997. Last week, Pete called for six more weeks of winter weather. And here in Northeast Texas, nobody knows what our weather will bring!

So, if I sound like your mom reminding you to take along your jacket or umbrella “just in case,” here are a few more reminders you need to know about winter events.
