The Age of Aquarius?

Remember the popular hit medley “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In?”

The explosive 1969 anthem by The 5th Dimension carried the hippy movement forward into the 70s in the belief that the generation was unique among generations. And, it really was, as we who lived through it can testify! We who took the 'dawning of the age of Aquarius' lyrics to heart anticipated a positive culture change. The song promoted an age to be celebrated and prophecies of hope and peace to be embraced. Did “harmony and understanding, sympathy and trust abounding” really come true as the lyrics suggested? Obviously not. But, here we are again, at an actual coming age of Aquarius.

The 'Age of Aquarius' appears to be approaching our doorstep, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac. 'The Great Age' is associated with the position of the 2024 March Equinox, or arrival of spring.” It is thought by some that it may herald a new age for humanity. The location of the sun during the March equinox is on the constellation of Pisces, but also on the border of Aquarius.” However, if and when we move toward a new age, the gradual movement is not uncommon, as the entire universe is always in motion.

Personally, I can’t help but wonder, when after March 19, 2024, the first day of spring, the Great Eclipse follows in just three weeks, how will this event fit into the astronomical puzzle for us? Truly, when the April 8 sun-related phenomenon enters our collective backyard in Hopkins County and brings a few thousand sun-followers with it, will our community be “eclipsed” by being unprepared?

Here’s one more thought. The author of the book “The Great Age Reboot” contends that in the coming age, 'current science and technology will revolutionize the human ability to live longer, younger, and better, due to today’s breakthroughs in longevity research.' I pondered that possibility as well as my own personal longevity.

Then, a musical phrase again came to mind. “Then peace will guide the planets, and love will steer the stars.” I sighed and smiled as hope sprang afresh, and I fell again, as I did at 16, for the promise of that lovely universe described in the song. I think I’m willing to wait for it.
