Funeral services for Sam Porter Jr., 77, of Sulphur Springs, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019 at Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will follow at East Caney Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation.
Sam passed away Oct. 11, 2019 at Sulphur Springs Health and Rehab.
He was born April 9, 1942 in Sulphur Springs, the son of Sam Porter Sr. and Mary Lee Ross Porter. Sam married Virginia Joyce Hall April 13, 1962. She preceded him in death June 16, 2017. Sam attended school in the Hopkins county area. He was a member of Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Sam retired from Hopkins County Precinct 2 after working many years in Como, Texas.
He is survived by children, Karmon Porter Fralin (Anthony), Bobby Ray Porter (Louella), Jana Kay Porter and Michael D. Porter; grandchildren, Anthony Fralin Jr., Katia Fralin, Justin Porter, Draylon Porter, Jerry Wilkerson Jr., Brit-nee Porter, Whitney Porter Kendrick, Keistan Edwards and Delisia Smith; sisters, Freddie Porter Jernigan and Sharon Porter; brother, Willie Ray Porter; and a host of great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Virginia, Sam is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Joyce Porter; grandson, Darius T. Porter; sister, Trullie Porter; and brothers, Maurice Porter and Marvin Porter.
