Sgt. Scott Davis of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office reportedly observed a vehicle parked at a closed entrance gate in the 600 block of Interstate 30 east at 12:17 a.m. Monday. He stopped to investigate and found two occupants inside the vehicle, identified as Jodi Denise Gibson, 44, and Joshua David Hudson, 39, both of Sulphur Springs.

Gibson was the driver of the vehicle and advised she was having issues with her windshield wipers. While awaiting the results of a records check, both parties reportedly advised Davis that Hudson lived next door to the location where they were parked and had stopped to talk while waiting for the rain to stop.

Davis reportedly questioned the pair, curious why they were parked when the Hudson’s residence was so close. Hudson reportedly advised there was a person at his residence who did not get along with Gibson.

Both parties were reportedly asked about previous arrest offenses and stated there was no illegal contraband in the vehicle. Gibson reportedly gave consent for Davis to search the vehicle and both parties exited.

Because it was raining, Davis advised Hudson he could hold an umbrella lying on the dash. As Hudson exited the vehicle, Davis reportedly observed a dry black container fall to the ground near the passenger door. After patting down both occupants, Davis retrieved the container and opened it. Inside was a small clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Both parties were detained and reportedly denied ownership of the contraband when asked. Hudson reportedly attempted to claim ownership after Gibson advised the contraband did not belong to her.

A records check revealed Gibson had active warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility and two counts of expired registration. Hudson had a warrant for driving while license invalid.

They were both transported to the Hopkins County jail and booked in on the warrants.

Both were also charged with possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, arrest reports read.
