3 players finish in double-digits

SULPHUR BLUFF- The Saltillo Lions junior high basketball team traveled to Sulphur Bluff Thursday, looking to continue their strong play.

The Lions opened the game with a huge first quarter, posting 26 points in the opening frame. Their 26 first quarter points was the second most they have had in a quarter this season. Saltillo only allowed Sulphur Bluff to answer back with seven points of their own, giving the Lions a very comfortable lead from the beginning.

In the second quarter Saltillo continued their strong play, adding another 17 points to their lead. The Lions defense held Sulphur Bluff to single-digits once again, and Saltillo was able to enter the locker room with a 43-15 lead.

Sulphur Bluff opened the second half with their best quarter of the game, scoring double-digits points for the first time all game. Saltillo answered back with 12 points of their own, outscoring Sulphur Bluff by one point in the frame.

Saltillo took their foot off the gas a bit in the final frame, but they allowed Sulphur Bluff to just four points, and they were able to cruise to a 67-30 win.

The Lions shared the load offensively, getting production from 10 different players, three of which finished in double-digits. Heston Gilbreath was the leading man, posting an impressive 19-point performance.

Just behind him were Eathan Reese and Tristan Rains who had 18 points and 17 points respectively. Other scorers for the Lions were Rowdy Speir with eight points, Tobin Potter with four points, Trey Tully, Jonas Beadle and Adrian Don Juan who each had two points, and Justin Cabrera who had one point.

The win makes Saltillo 7-3 on the season. They play again Thursday at home against Miller Grove beginning at 4 p.m.
