NORTH FORNEY- The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to North Forney Monday for a non district match. The Lady Cats entered the day with a perfect record of 3-0. North Forney is No. 10 in the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches preseason rankings.

The first half was all about defense, with neither team able to score a goal. Anna Williams got things started for the Lady Cats, scoring an unassisted goal early in the second half.

Katlyn Robinson followed her lead, scoring on an assist from Isabelle Thesing. For good measure, Rebekah Stanley scored the third Lady Cats goal of the night, with some help from a Janine Yamaguchi assist. North Forney was able to score once, but Sulphur Springs went on the win the game by a final score of 3-1.

“There were plenty of chances for us to open up the score, but thankfully during the second half we were able to take care of business and put three in the back of the net,” Coach Javier Aquayo said. “I was very pleased with the way our girls played.”

The win improved the Lady Cats record to 4-0 to start the season. So far they have beaten Paris, 4-1; Terell, 3-0; Palestine, 4-1; and North Forney, 3-1. Sulphur Springs is averaging just short of four goals per game, while allowing just three goals in their four games played.

The Lady Cats will play their alumni game Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. and will return home again Monday to host Kilgore. The junior varsity is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow. Sulphur Springs will have just one more home preseason game after that before beginning district play. Their final home preseason game will be against Princeton Jan. 12.
