Art competition open to local students

Awards ceremony set for February

Students from Miller Grove ISD and Como-Pickton CISD will have an opportunity to enter into a student art competition for Woods and Rains County schools with artwork due the week of Feb. 8, 2021 at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts (WCA).

Since 2013, Friends of Rains County Public Library has organized the competition, which has grown from 20 entries in its first year to over 100 entries in 2019. The event was “put on pause” in 2019, according to organizer Lyn Baldwin. “I am ‘passing the paintbrush’

“I am ‘passing the paintbrush’ to WCA Board President, Mary White and Art in the Gallery Chairman Mary Geisler,” Baldwin said in a press release. “They will fill the Winnsboro Center for the Arts gallery with a montage of ingenious original artwork for the 2021 Seventh Art in the Gallery High School Art Competition.”

The artwork will be judged Feb.

18-19 with the awards ceremony set 4 p.m. Feb. 21 at the WCA Gallery. The art will be displayed through April 10.

All participating high school art instructors have been sent an invitation to be included in this event, and for guidelines and admission forms, interested students should contact their art intructor or contact White at mary@marygeisler.net.
