The following reports are based on arrests conducted with reports filed by Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Tuesday and included:

Alcohol-related arrests

• After being dispatched to a crash in the 1000 block of East Shannon Road in Sulphur Springs late Friday, Sulphur Springs police reported the driver involved had an odor of alcohol on him and exhibited signs of intoxication. The 38-year-old Sulphur Springs man alleged refused sobriety testing on scene and later allegedly refused to give a breath or blood sample. A warrant was issued for a blood draw. The man was arrested on the charge of driving while intoxicated with a previous conviction.

• Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies approached a 25-year-old Sulphur Springs man on State Highway 11 west who was allegedly asleep in his 2010 Dodge Ram that was parked in a driveway with the engine idling early Saturday morning. In his report, the arresting deputy stated he could smell the odor of alcohol.

After exiting the truck, the man allegedly claimed there was a pistol in his truck, which was reportedly discovered.

When the deputy attempted to administer sobriety testing, the man is reported to have said that “he knew he had consumed too much alcohol and would not pass” and is alleged to have given consent for a blood draw.

He was arrested on the charges of unlawful carry of a weapon and driving while intoxicated, first offense.

• A Department of Public Safety trooper late Thursday clocked a Ford F-150 allegedly doing 98 miles per hour on Interstate 30 and wrote in his report that “the vehicle was driving erratically and swerving all over the roadway.” The vehicle’s speed increased to 112 mph, according to the report. The trooper wrote that after he activated the lights on his patrol unit, the truck “slowed down and almost came to a stop in the middle of the interstate. It finally pulled onto the right shoulder and stopped.”

The trooper alleged seeing an open bottle of Patron Silver behind the driver’s seat and that the 48-yearold Sulphur Springs man smelled of alcohol. The man allegedly refused some of the sobriety tests the trooper attempted to administer but performed others. According to the report, the man agreed to a breath test, for which the result allegedly was 0.149. The man also allegedly refused a voluntary blood sample, for which a warrant was obtained.

The man was arrested on the charge of driving while intoxicated, first offense, with an open container.

• Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies found a 2019 Toyota Camry in a ditch south of the roadway, following a reported vehicle accident on FM 1537 east of County Road 3505 Friday afternoon. Deputies believed the vehicle was involved in a rollover crash.

The 30-year-old Sulphur Springs woman who was the driver allegedly smelled a little of alcohol. When the woman reportedly complained of chest pains, she was taken to the hospital for treatment, at which point the deputy administered sobriety testing; however, the results, he reported, were hampered due to the woman’s chest pains. Instead, the woman allegedly gave consent for a blood specimen.

After she was dismissed from the hospital, the woman was arrested on the charge of driving wile intoxicated, first offense.

Drug-related arrests

• Monday afternoon, a 22-year old Leesburg, Texas man was “contacted during a traffic stop for speeding.” The Department of Public Safety trooper alleged a probable cause search citing an alleged odor of marijuana in the Ford truck, during which search, the trooper reported “a mason jar containing marijuana was located in the passenger floorboard” and “a cigar package that contained mushrooms (psilocybin)” was also found, according to the report. The marijuana weighed 0.95 ounces and the mushrooms 8 grams, he wrote in the report. The man was arrested on the charges of possession of a controlled substance, more than 4 but less than 400 grams, and possession of marijuana, less than 2 ounces.

• A vehicle with alleged expired registration as of September 2016 and an alleged false registration sticker on the windshield was stopped on FM 71 west late Friday by a Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputy. The 48-year-old Sulphur Springs man is reported to have admitted having “possible marijuana inside the vehicle.”

During a consent search of the Ford F-150, the deputy reportedly found “a small amount of a green, leafy substance suspected to be marijuana and more than one item of drug paraphernalia.” Deputies also reported finding “a one dollar bill containing a crystal-like substance suspected to be methamphetamine,” according to the report.

The substance allegedly field-tested positive, and the dollar bill with the suspected meth is reported to have weighed 0.991 grams.

The man was arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than a gram.

• Early Tuesday morning on State Highway 19 south at County Road 1174, Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies pulled over a 1999 Ford Ranger for an alleged defective license plate light. The 25-year-old Marrero, La. man who was the driver allegedly admitted that “he was out on bond for a possession of controlled substance charge,” the report read, and further allegedly admitted, “he had some marijuana in his pocket.”

Deputies reported locating during a consent search the marijuana in the man’s pocket, as well as finding inside the truck “several other items of drug paraphernalia, including a burned glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a glass pipe commonly used to smoke marijuana” and “a small plastic baggie containing a white power-like substance,” which the man allegedly claimed was cocaine.

The suspected cocaine is reported to have weighted about 0.3 grams, including packaging.

The man was arrested on the charge of possession of a controlled substance, less than a gram.

Miscellaneous arrests

• A 2008 Saturn SUV traveling on Interstate 30 in Cumby was allegedly speeding, 89 miles per hour in a 75- mph zone, according to the Cumby police officer who pulled the vehicle over Saturday evening. The 34-year-old Irving man was reportedly discovered to have a Dallas County warrant on the charge of failure to pay child support and was arrested.
