Lady Bears fall short in district opener

SULPHUR BLUFF—The Sulphur Bluff Lady Bears hosted Rivercrest Tuesday, Sept. 8 for their first district matchup of the season. The Lady Bears entered the match as winners of their last game, taking down CHAAMP, 3-0.

Sulphur Bluff opened the match, losing a close first set by a score of 25-22. The second set was tougher for them, and they quickly trailed 2-0 after losing the set, 25-17.

The Lady Bears rallied back in the third and fourth sets to keep their hopes alive, winning both sets by a score of 28-26. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to complete the comeback, as they fell in the final set, 15-9.

Tori Raine led the way for the Lady Bears, finishing with 12 kills, 12 digs, four aces and an assist. Alley Collet also had a great game offensively, creating chances for both herself and others, as she had 28 assists in the match, as well as eight digs, seven kills and a pair of aces.

Other notables for the Lady Bears were Taylor Wallis, 13 digs; Bailey Neal, eight digs; Allie Eason, eight kills and two blocks; Hannah Byrd, five digs and three kills; and Jada White, five kills and two blocks.

Hannah Bryd and Lydia Drummond each had five digs, while Molly Kelley had three digs.
