GREENVILLE — The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats got a big win on the road Friday night when they traveled to Greenville for a district rematch game. The Lady Cats won the first matchup as well on Feb. 11 by a score of 6-1.

The Lady Cats got off to a bit of a slow start, struggling to move the ball, but were able to get on the board first with a goal from Janine Yamaguchi. Rebekah Stanley picked up the assist on the play. “Thankfully, after a few minutes and some bad stints, we were able to slow down the tempo and play a through [pass] to Janine, which got us our fist goal,” Coach Javier Aguayo said.

The Lady Lions were able to tie things up with a goal of their own before halftime.

Haley Robinson opened the scoring in the second half for the Lady Cats, scoring on another assist from Stanley to give Sulphur Springs a 2-1 lead. After assisting on a pair of goals Stanley was able to score a goal herself. Robinson was credited with the assist. Finally, to put the game away Yamaguchi scored her second goal of the night, while Stanley was able to pick up her third assist. The Lady Cats won, 4-1.

“In the second half, we came out strong and corrected some small errors from the first half of play and controlled the game. We have to keep working and focus on the road ahead,” Aguayo added.

The JV team was able to get the win as well, winning 2-0 on goals from Alexia Vallejo and Jadyn VanWinkle.

The win makes the Lady Cats 8-8-1 on the season and 4-2 in district play.
