The Zoning Board of Adjustments (ZBA) had a short meeting in which they approved a cosmetic tattooing license and a plat adjustment, among other items of business on Tuesday.

After opening at 6:30 p.m., the group unanimously approved their May agenda meeting minutes.

The board heard an application to perform cosmetic tattooing at 440 South Hillcrest Drive. This would be a new business venture of Brandy Estes, who is looking to open a salon at the Woodbridge Mall, according to Community Development Director Tory Niewiadomski. Estes has previously been granted a special use permit for cosmetic tattooing for Southern Roots salon on Broadway, Niewiadomski stated.

The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) approved Estes’ request on Monday evening, and final approval rested with the ZBA.

With no additional discussion, the ZBA unanimously approved Estes’ request.

The Board then heard a request for a three-car garage located at 234 Ardis Street. According to Niewiadomski, the plans for the garage were “non-conforming to setback standards… too close to the side of the property lines and really close to the front property line.”

Niewiadomski said city staff recommended approval, as long as the home itself was not additionally expanded.

ZBA members Janet Martin and Brad Burgin inquired that from the architectural drawings provided in the board packet, the garage looked wider than the house and Niewiadomski provided clarification that yes, the house was narrow, but the drawings were not to scale.

With no further questions, the board unanimously approved the request.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 6:39 p.m.
