The Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees met for a special session Monday, Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. to discuss the targeted improvement plan for Lamar Primary.

Third graders from Bowie Primary School and their teachers gave a demonstration of “Room Transformations,” a new technique being used in math and reading classes at the campus. Teachers are encouraged to use their creativity to create more engaging lessons using props, sound effects, décor, and hands-on activities and games. It’s working very well across all grade levels on the campus, teachers said. District counselors were introduced and gave a short presentation on the many functions they serve in their roles, as well as the educational and professional requirements they must meet to be a school counselor.

“Community in Schools” social workers were introduced and gave a brief overview of their new role in the district.

Asst. Superintendent Rusty Harden gave a report of Red Ribbon Week activities planned for the various campuses the week of Oct. 28 – Nov. 1. Board members received required Head Start training from Angela Edwards and Sherry Sinclair. Supt. Lamb gave an update on current board goals.

Trustees approved the Head Start Policy Council bylaws and mission and philosophy statements. They also appointed Robbin Vaughn as the board representative to the Head Start Policy Council.

Asst. Supt. Kristin Monk gave a report on Lamar Primary’s targeted improvement plan, which is required by the Texas Education Agency in light of the campus’s accountability ratings.

In other personnel matters discussed during executive session, the board approved the following changes:
