Sulphur Springs ISD is proud to declare their valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2020 senior class. Sulphur Springs’ valedictorian is Sydney Washburn and Andrew Westlund is the salutatorian.

Sydney Washburn is the daughter of Scott and Ashley Washburn and Kris and Troy Lopez. In high school she ran cross country and track, played volleyball, and was a member of the key club, National Honor Society, Hopkins County Leadership and the First Baptist Church youth Group. She was a competitor for the UIL Barbara Jordan essay competition and has received the Presidential Gold scholarship, Baptist Ministry Scholarship and Hubler Endowed scholarship from Baylor University. She plans to attend Baylor University and major in religion and medical humanities, and one day earn a medical degree and to become a medical missionary. 

Andrew Westlund is the son of Daniel and Misty Westlund. During high school he participated in UIL, destination imagination, and National Honor Society. He was a section leader for the tubas in band, played piano at church and served as a Sunday School helper, youth group leader and summer camp counselor as well. He is also proud of the internship he completed at Fidelity Express. He has received a Quest Whole Leader scholarship. He plans to attend Oral Roberts University and pursue a degree in computer science, and would one day like to enter the field of quantum computer programming.
