Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Wednesday included:

POLICE

Thursday

11:10 a.m.: Chrystal Brooke Vargas, 37, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at her residence on a Hopkins County warrant for tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. Bond was set at $10,000, and she was released Friday, jail and arrest reports read.

2:16 p.m.: A 57-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop in the 100 block of Jill Lane on a charge of displaying a fictitious license plate. Officer Adrian Pruitt noticed during contact with the driver that the vehicle’s license plates did not match the registration insignia. Pruitt conducted a records check on the vehicle using the VIN number and discovered the license plates displayed were not assigned to the vehicle they were on. The man was taken into custody. Bond was set at $1,000, and the man was released Friday, jail and arrest reports read.

9:22 p.m.: Curtis Dwight Bluford, Jr., 27, of Sulphur Springs was arrested on a Hopkins County warrant for felony aggravated assault in retaliation dating back to 2014. Deputies were dispatched to the location in reference to a call regarding a disturbance. Bluford was reportedly an involved party on scene. Dispatch confirmed he had a warrant and he was taken into custody, arrest reports read.

Wednesday

4:11 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity on State Highway 19 north at County Road 4574. A caller reported seeing a man sitting in a vehicle parked under a tree and thought it could be a possible DUI. Deputies were unable to locate the individual.

5:22 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity on FM 275 north in Cumby. A caller reported seeing a shirtless man sitting at the end of the caller’s driveway. Deputies were unable to locate the individual.

5:53 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a residence on FM 71 east. A caller reported a woman was trying to cause a disturbance.

Thursday

10:26 a.m.: A 26-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at the Hopkins County Courthouse on a charge of obstruction or retaliation. Deputies were called to the first floor courtroom where county court was in session. The man was reportedly angry because his court date had been set for another day. As he left the courtroom, he reportedly destroyed county property. The bailiff confronted the man about the damaged property. The man allegedly threatened the bailiff, stating he would meet the bailiff when he took off work and “whip his butt.” Deputies took the man into custody. Bond was set at $20,000, and he remained in jail as of press time, arrest and jail reports read.

11:48 a.m.: Cumby PD responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a Depot Street residence. A woman reported her husband had taken the batteries out of the air conditioner unit and was trying to bake her.

3:07 p.m.: Cumby PD responded to a report of a man jumping over the median barrier on Interstate 30 near the rest area.

5:26 p.m.: Cumby PD responded to a report of a disturbance or family violence at a Main Street residence. A woman reported her boyfriend broke into her home and she needed help.

5:33 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of an elderly woman whose vehicle had possibly broken down on State Highway 154 south near Seymore. They were unable to locate the woman.

6:32 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle on County Road 2307. A caller reported seeing a naked woman on drugs screaming.

9:10 p.m.: Deputies responded to a report of harassment at a Brashear residence. A man reported receiving nasty text messages asking for money.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 568 non-emergency phone calls, 102 calls for service and 57 emergency calls. For the 48-hour period from 5:30 a.m. Wednesday to 5:30 a.m. Friday, officers issued two citations and conducted four inmate transports between facilities 12 traffic stops.

Thirteen people were booked into and nine people released from county jail, which held 166 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Friday.
