Friday

9 a.m.: Lieutenant Mark Estes of SSPD’s Special Crimes Unit and Officer Sean Hoffman arrested Herman Lee Morris Jr., 29, of Sulphur Springs for endangering a child, a state jail felony, after a joint investigation by SCU and Child Protective Services found that a 1-year-old child in Morris’s care tested positive for methamphetamine. Morris allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine as well, and was arrested at the CPS office, according to reports. Morris remains in jail on a $20,000 bond, according to HCSO records.

Saturday

8:48 p.m.: Officer Murphy arrested a 48-year-old Sulphur Springs man for public intoxication when he was called to the Star Mart on Church Street in reference to a disturbance, according to reports. Although SSPD identified the man as the person involved in the disturbance, those at the scene stated they did not want to press charges, the report said. The man allegedly told police he had taken “a pill for calming down” prior to police arrival and police determined he was under the influence of a “narcotic/ intoxicant,” according to the report. The man was taken to jail without incident and later released, according to records.

12:02 p.m.: Officer Francis arrested a 58-year-old California man for public intoxication after a call about a suspicious person at the Metro Diner, according to reports. After making contact with the man, officers found him to be allegedly emitting an odor of alcohol on his breath, have bloodshot eyes and be unsteady on his feet. The man was transported to jail without incident and later released, according to records.

9:07 p.m.: Officer Floyd arrested a 20-year-old Sulphur Springs woman on charges of possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces and tampering with/fabricating physical evidence after pulling over her blue Dodge Challenger in the 1600 block of Mockingbird Lane for allegedly speeding, according to reports. When Floyd illuminated the patrol vehicle’s overhead lights to initiate the traffic stop, he allegedly “observed a bag being thrown out the front passenger side window,” the report said. When Floyd made contact with the woman and her passenger, both allegedly denied they had thrown anything out the window, the report said. However, when Floyd went back to search, he found a “clear plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana lying on the roadway” approximately 50 feet behind the car, the report said. The driver allegedly admitted it was hers, so she was transported to jail without incident and later released, according to reports.

Sunday

1:20 p.m.: Officer Floyd arrested a 60-year-old Winnsboro woman on charges of theft of property between $100 and $750 dollars at Walmart, according to reports. Loss prevention officers contacted SSPD after the woman was observed allegedly not paying for multiple items at the self-checkout totaling $136.69, according to reports. The woman was issued a criminal trespass and taken to jail without incident, and was later released, according to records.

Friday

10:32 a.m.: Deputies Russell and Fisher located Ricky Lee Wyly II, 41, of Sulphur Springs at his home and arrested him on an outstanding warrant for assault on a family house member impeding breathing or circulation without incident, according to reports. He remains in jail on a $50,000 bond, according to HCSO records.

11:15 a.m.: Deputy Poteet transported a 20-year-old Oklahoma woman charged with felony possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility from the San Saba Texas Department of Corrections facility to HCSO to serve a bench warrant without incident, according to records.

3:10 p.m.: Deputies Russell and Fisher located Lauren Leighann Duckworth, 29, of Sulphur Springs at her home and arrested her for an outstanding warrant for felony burglary of a building without incident, according to reports. She remains in jail and is being held without bond, according to HCSO records.

7:45 p.m.: Sheriff ’s deputies arrested a 39-year-old Sulphur Springs man after they pulled him over for a routine traffic stop at the Interstate 30 service road at Highway 19 and found he had outstanding warrants out of Sherman County for failure to appear and possession of dangerous drugs.

12:07 a.m.: Deputy Russell arrested a 27-year-old Celeste man on an outstanding warrant for violation of parole from the Austin parole board when he pulled the man over on Industrial Drive at Bill Bradford Road for a routine traffic violation and found the man to have an active warrant, according to reports.

12:38 p.m.: DPS troopers arrested a 39-year-old Sulphur Springs man when they pulled him over on State Highway 154 near the 672 mile marker and allegedly smelled a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person, reports said. The man allegedly admitted to having drank three beers, and a blood alcohol content breath test showed .133 at the highest, the report said. The man was charged on DWI first offense and also with an outstanding warrant for driving without a license and his bond was set at $5000, records stated. According to records he was later released.

1:18 a.m.: HCSO deputies arrested a 69-year-old Mount Vernon man for DWI third offense or more after receiving a call of a reckless driver transferred from Delta County communications where they located the alleged driver on Church Street, according to reports. After making contact with the man, they found him to allegedly be emitting a faint smell of alcohol from his person, have bloodshot, glassy eyes, and officers observed two open containers in the vehicle, reports said. The man was transported to HCSO jail without incident, where he remains on a $10,000 bond.

11:03 a.m.: DPS troopers arrested a 59-year-old Sulphur Springs woman for DWI first offense after they stopped her for allegedly failing to drive in a single lane on I-30 near the 125 mile marker south service road, reports said. The woman “drove completely off the road and into a barrow ditch and returned back to the roadway,” the report said, and allegedly when troopers asked her to exit the vehicle, she “could not stand on her own and nearly fell over several times.” The woman allegedly admitted to taking two of her hydrocodone pills before driving, the report said. She was transported to jail and later released, according to reports.

3:59 p.m.: Winnsboro police exchanged custody of a 44-year-old Winnsboro man with HCSO deputies at the county line due to the man’s outstanding warrants in Hopkins County for two counts of failure to maintain financial responsibility and two counts of display of expired license plates, according to reports. The man was taken to jail without incident and later released, according to records.

5:45 p.m.: A 45-year-old Bogata man turned himself in to the HCSO on an outstanding warrant of DWI third offense or more without incident, according to records. He remains in jail and is not bond eligible, according to records.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 561 non-emergency phone calls, 148 calls for service and 99 emergency calls. For the 48-hour period from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7:00 a.m. Monday, officers issued two citations and conducted two inmate transports between facilities, four special patrols and 62 traffic stops. Thirty-one people were booked into and 29 people released from county jail, which held 163 inmates at 7:00 a.m. Monday.
