New student pre-kindergarten, Head Start registration continues

Sulphur Springs ISD 2024-25 Head Start and Pre-Kindergarten Registration continues at Douglass Early Childhood Learning Center, Applications are being accepted and processed for new students for the 202425 academic school year.

To be eligible, families must meet income qualifications and children must be 3 or 4 years of age on or before September 1, 2024. Before the registration process can begin, ALL required and applicable documents must be provided.

Documents needed include Proof of all household income. This may include both 2023 tax forms and W-2 forms, or if those forms aren’t available, a notarized letter from employers which includes yearly salary information and is written on official letterhead, or a third party verification if parent reports zero income in the last 12 months.

All of the following, if applicable, must also be provided:

„ Child support/alimo-

ny information; „ Military Documents with LES (leaves and earning statements and the Family Subsistence Supplemental Allowance )SAFFA) „ Parent Pell Grant information

„ Supplemental Security Income (SSI) „ SSA Social Security Income The following information must also be provided for the child: Child’s official birth certificate; Social Security Card; up-to-date immunization records; insurance such as current Medicaid letter, CHIP card or private insurance card); and if applicable, doctor’s notes concerning any allergies or health needs, Foster Care 2085 Form. and the applicant child’s individualized education plan (IEP).

Parent information needed include a college transcript if enrolled,; current food stamp letter for SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program); custodial documents or court orders; legal guardian’s photo ID/ license; proof of residence within SSSD, such as a current utility bill, whether that be electric, water or gas, or a rent or lease agreement; TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families), and WIC card.

The SSISD Head Start program provides certified teachers/assistants, two nutritional meals and a snack per day; full-day educational services; outdoor playground facilities; limited transportation services; social services; parent engagement meetings; speech, hearing and vision evaluations; health and fental screenings; and accepts children experiencing homelessness, and children with mild, moderate, or severe disabilities as determined by individual needs.

Three registration options were offered, but those planning to submit an application for consideration should schedule an appointment as soon as possible as here will be no walk-ins.

Virtual Round-Up Week was April 2-5. Applicants were to submit documents by email starting March 25, then Rita V. Taylor, ERSEA specialist, reviewed the documents and contact families regarding the next steps in the registration process.

In-Person Round-Up Week is this week, April 15-19. Those planning this option should contact Pam Scott, secretary, at 903885-4516 to schedule an appointment one day this week between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. All required and applicable documents must be provided before the registration process can begin.
