The Honorable Tina Turner Young has begun serving four Hopkins County postal offices as the new Postmaster.

Young said she is happy to be serving here, and invites those she has not had the chance to meet yet, as well as all of her new friends, to attend her Oath of Office ceremony on Friday, Aug. 18, at 3 p.m. inside the Sulphur Springs City Hall, a building with an early history as a post office.

The Honorable Young became employed with the United States Postal Service 25 years ago as a letter carrier. She carried mail for six years in the City Of Dallas, then, was promoted to supervisor in Irving, Texas, where she served as Officer in Charge (OIC) at Irving, Downtown, and Valley Ranch Post Offices. She later returned to Dallas, where she served as the OIC of Dallas MPO, and later, promoted to the Lake Highlands Post Office as a manager of Customer Service.

'Serving as the OIC on a higher level at several post offices within the Dallas city gained me an abundance of customer service experience and delivery knowledge,' she said.

More promotions followed, including to the University Post Office, the largest post office in Dallas, where she also served on the Safety Team.

'It was in late 2022 when I learned I would be coming to Sulphur Springs. I was awarded the Postmaster position in November 2022, and I reported to my office on February 10, 2023, receiving a hearty welcome by a wonderful group of employees who also work hard. Since arriving, I’ve had the privilege of meeting numerous community residents, and been blessed with their smiles, hugs, and warm conversations. My doors are open to the public. Because of my strict schedule, you may have to make an appointment by calling (903) 885-2771, but I will assure you that your concerns are heard and resolved as best as possible.'

Community service is another of the interests which has shaped the life of Honorable Young. 'I work with the community of DFW as part of Dallas City CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) where we respond to disasters within the communities. I am also the Chaplain of the Naomi Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Since I am a prayer warrior, that position fits me well. I am also the founder and CEO Of Garland Legends Organization Serving 100, an organization which assists the homeless community as well as seniors and disabled veterans. We serve 5200 homeless individuals each year. We are certified to serve food and to respond to disasters on a global level. I am family driven, and enjoy spending time with friends and family. I also enjoy poetry, and am a poet myself. I am a people person, and love the people in our community.'

Honorable Young is pleased to be the first female and first Black American to be named Postmaster for Sulphur Springs, 'I desire to continue the excellent service to our customers, plus a whole lot more. I encourage meeting with customers and learning their needs. I was elated to have met City Manager Marc Maxwell, as he is a blessing to have as a leader in our community. I also spoke with the Mayor briefly and look forward to working with him in the future. I plan to become a part of the change in our great city of Sulphur Springs. I would like for the Sulphur Springs Postal Service to be more involved in the community, including celebrations, parades, and other events. Yes, our staff's schedules are super tight, but where we can, we will. The clerks love it when customers come to the retail window. You give us something to smile about! Both the Rural and City carriers are working hard daily to ensure that you get the mail delivery service you deserve. I can’t end without saying how much I appreciate my supervisors, as they are the wheels to the wagon. I am gratefully appreciative of their support in service to you, the community. To all the residents and postal customers of the cities of Sulphur Springs, Como, Dike, and Sulphur Bluff, I want to thank you for welcoming me and making my stay in Sulphur Springs an easy transition.”
