New book focuses on history of downtown

The Hopkins County Genealogical Society has released a new book, The Progressive City — History of Downtown Sulphur Springs 1914, according to a release by the organization.

The book is the product of five years of research and was complied by Shirley Lunceford Patchen. Information includes the history of Sulphur Springs and those who lived in town during the early part of the 20th century, the release read. It includes 459 pages with 234 photos of early businesses and leaders, a full name index and removable map that indicates where those business were located. It is bound with a Unibind steel spine.

The cost to purchase The Progressive City — History of Downtown Sulphur Springs 1914 is $50 and is available at the HCGS library inside the Sulphur Springs Public Library, 611 North Davis St. in Sulphur Springs. Those interested can also call 903-885-8523 with any questions.
