A 27-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 119 at 2:10 p.m. Saturday on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Deputies responded to a possible motorist assist at the location. Upon arrival, they found the man unresponsive in his vehicle with the engine off and windows rolled up.

EMS was called to the scene due to the excessive heat and the possibility of a heat injury. Deputies were able to get the man to wake up and exit the vehicle before escorting him to an air-conditioned patrol unit to await EMS.

After the man was medically cleared, deputies reportedly located multiple used hypodermic needles in plain view inside the vehicle. When they asked the man what the needles were used for, the man reportedly told them, “Meth.”

The man was released from jail Sunday. No bond was set.
