Man reported to have marijuana in his mouth

A Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputy alleged in an arrest report that at 11 p.m. Monday he pulled over a 2001 Nissan for “having no license plate lights and failed to signal the required distance before turning.”

The deputy further alleged there was an odor of marijuana and that he saw “on the front passenger side of the vehicle, a small, clear baggie… that had the odor of marijuana” as the occupants of the vehicle were getting out.

The deputy reported that he asked a 38-year-old Caddo Mills man who had been a passenger in the car to open his mouth, at which point, the deputy wrote, “upon opening his mouth, a green leafy substance was observed.” In the vehicle, the report read, was found also an empty hypodermic needle in the man’s bag, for which the man allegedly claimed ownership, the report read.

He was arrested on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old Greenville man, was allegedly found to have an outstanding Hunt County warrant for manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, more than 4 but less than 200 grams, and was taken into custody. The arrest report also alleged “deputies observed a small, yellow baggie containing a clear, crystal-like substance located in a compartment above the rear view mirror,” which allegedly field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 2.1 grams.

The Greenville man was arrested on the Hunt County warrant and on a charge of possession of a controlled substance, more than a gram but less than 4 grams. Bond on the Hunt County warrant was set at $75,000, cash or surety.
