A 33-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at a Helm Lane residence at 12:07 a.m. Saturday for violation of a protective order, less than 24 hours after he was jailed on a charge of aggravated assault.

The man was arrested on a charge of assault or family violence by threat Thursday night. He reportedly threatened to bash in his 78-year-old mother’s face and was taken into custody. The man reportedly became violent with jail staff and was placed in the violence cell at the jail. No bond was set, and he was released from jail Friday under a protective order, prohibiting him to come within 1,000 feet of his mother.

Just after midnight Saturday, officers responded to the residence after the man was reported to be outside the apartment, asking his mother to allow him to enter. Officers reportedly observed him speaking to someone through the door and confirmed that person was his mother. The protective order was confirmed, and he was taken into custody again.

Bond was set at $2,500, and he remained in jail as of press time Tuesday.
