A 21-year-old Emory man was arrested at 2 a.m. Friday at the Brashear Post Office on a charge of possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

Deputies reportedly spotted a dark colored Chevy Cruze pull into the parking lot of the post office from FM 2653. They alleged the driver, Devan Dale Munoz, appeared to be lost and was driving forward and reversing as if unfamiliar with the location.

During contact, deputies reportedly observed Munoz to have glassy, bloodshot eyes and and give the appearance of being intoxicated from narcotics. Munoz reportedly advised he was traveling from Emory to Greenville and allegedly handed the deputy his cell phone so the deputy could enter an unknown address into the GPS navigation system.

A records check revealed Munoz did not have a driver’s license. During searches of Munoz’s person and vehicle, deputies reportedly located a cigar packet containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and a clear baggie of suspected methamphetamine.

Munoz adamantly stated the illegal narcotics, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, did not belong to him.

Bond was set at $10,000, and Munoz was released later that same day.
