Cumby ISD had a confirmed case of COVID-19 prior to school's first day and has already deployed their containment procedures, according to a release from the school.

Cumby ISD learned that one of their students confirmed positive with COVID-19 was in and around facilities on August 7, according to a release. The district contacted other students who may have had contact with the student, but will not release further details about the student, according to the release.

Those who are in quarantine from this exposure will start school on August 24, the release stated. All other students will start school August 13, the school said. A negative antigen test is not needed for students to return to school, according to Cumby ISD.

The school notified parents of this decision on August 13 via a school letter. The letter was shared on Facebook, but was ultimately removed due to Facebook's community standards policy, according to superintendent Shelly Slaughter.

All notices related to COVID-19 will be available on the school website, cumbyisd.net, Slaughter said.

Slaughter said the students' first day back has been "really great."

"There are a few learning curves, but otherwise it's really nice for the kids to be back together," Slaughter stated.
