Board passes paid leave for pandemic

Sulphur Springs ISD held their monthly school board meeting at noon on Monday, Dec. 14, during which the board approved a resolution that extends the period of paid leave for employees for COVID-19. The extension was set to expire at the end of this year, and the resolution allows for employees who haven’t used the leave yet to be able to take leave in the spring if the pandemic-related need arises.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Amanda Claypool, an SSISD parent, spoke to the board about the district’s dress code policy, specifically earrings, and asked that the policy be amended to be “inclusive to all students.”

Afterward, a public hearing regarding the Amended Application for Appraised Value Limitation on Qualified Property from Hopkins Energy, LLC Comptroller Application #1384 was held. Another public hearing, focusing on the 2019-2020 Financial Accountability Rating was also held. No one from the public was present at either hearing.

REPORTS

SSISD Assistant Superintendent Kristin Monk introduced the Targeted Improvement Plans for both Lamar and Travis Primary schools. Superintendent Michael Lamb presented the virtual learning data for the first nine weeks. The Head Start November director’s report, Policy council meeting minutes and November Head Start financial report were also presented.
