SS man arrested on warrant, possession charge

Robert Harold George, 50, of Sulphur Springs was arrested during a traffic stop at 2:55 p.m. in the 6000 block of County Road 1100 on a warrant for failure to appear on a charge of driving while intoxicated with an open container and a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

Deputies received information George was at a local truck stop and reportedly observed his vehicle parked at the location with expired registration. During the traffic stop, deputies reportedly observed George reaching around near the vehicle’s center console and dash.

George was taken into custody on the warrant.

Deputies reportedly then located two open containers of an alcoholic beverage during a search of the vehicle. In the vehicle’s ashtray, which was open with the insert partially out, deputies reportedly located a clear baggie of a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 0.94 grams.

Bond was set at $10,000, and George remained in custody as of press time Wednesday, according to reports.

Jail transfers, other activity

◼ Erin Virginia Blalock, 43, was arrested at the Harris County jail Monday and transported to the Hopkins County jail on bond forfeiture warrants on charges of possession of less than 28 grams of a Penalty Group 3 controlled substance and driving while intoxicated. Bond was not set, and she remained in custody as of press time, according to reports.

◼ Patricia Jean Raymond, 37, of Mesquite was released from jail Monday on a $30,000 bond. She was booked in Dec. 17 on a charge of felony bail jumping and failure to appear and a surety off bond warrant on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, according to jail records.

Animal complaints

• Report of an injured owl on County Road 4129 at State Highway 67 in Cumby at 7:04 a.m. Monday;

• Report of a loose dog aggressively barking and preventing a railroad worker from exiting a vehicle on the railroad tracks on State Highway 11 east in Como at 8:16 a.m. Monday;

• Cow out on FM 499 in Cumby at 11:07 a.m. Monday; and

• Report of cats left at an abandoned house on Odom Street in Cumby at 12:58 p.m. Monday.
