Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement activity so far this week included:

Monday, Oct. 23

„

Police contacted Maranda Louise Miller at 10:57 p.m. Oct. 23 on Tate Street on warrant for violation of probation on a possession of a controlled substance charge. The 41-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was found in possession of about 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, resulting in an additional possession of a controlled substance charge.

Deputies contacted Bruce Shane McConnell at 9:49 p.m. Oct. 23 on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 124 and detained him. He was alleged to have been involved in a rollover crash in Mount Vernon and fled the scene in an 18-wheeler. He displayed several signs of intoxication and allegedly made lewd statements. Suspectingthe man to be intoxicated on narcotics in a public place, the 42-yearold Sanger man was taken into custody on a public intoxication charge, according to arrest reports.

Cas Eugene Edwards, 47, of Mustang, Okla., was transported from an Oklahoma jail on a possession of a controlled substance charge.

Tuesday, Oct. 24

The passenger in a truck stopped by Cumby Police on Interstate 30 near mile marker 112 at 2 a.m. Oct. 24 was found to be in possession of a jar of marijuana, a THC vape pen with more than the legal amount of THC in it. Austin Monroe Miller was later found at the jail to have an orange powdery substance which he claimed was crushed Adderall and a mushroom on him. The 24-year-old Memphis, Tenn. man was charged with possession of less than 1gram of Penalty Group 1 and Group 2 controlled substances, as well as having a prohibited substance in a correctional facility. Zackery Glynn Barnett was also arrested at the location on possession of Penalty Groups 1, 2 and 3 controlled substances; CPD reported finding LSD, marijuana, mushrooms, ketamine, Xanax and other drugs and infused items in the vehicle, authorities alleged in arrest reports.

Tyler Reid Ellis was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia after deputies found marijuana and a pipe in the vehicle during a traffic stop on State Highway 19 north at 2:08 a.m. Oct. 24.

A complaint of suspicious activity in the area of Morris Drive and Alabama Street at midnight revealed a 20-year-old Winnsboro man in possession of a bag of suspected marijuana in a vehicle. As a result, Seth William Albright was arrested at 12:07 a.m. Oct. 24 for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Lorraine Louise Branch was accused of continuous family violence assault. Sulphur Springs Police responded at 10:42 p.m. at a Jefferson Street residence, where an assault was reported to have occurred. Officers determined the 62-year-old woman assaulted her spouse by striking him in the head with a table, causing pain.

Juan Daniel Vargas- Arrendondo was stopped for traffic violations on Rockdale Road at 8:59 p.m. Oct. 24. He was found to have no driver’s license and the vehicle’s registration expired in October of 2022. The vehicle was impounded and the 28-year-old Sulphur Springs man was arrested for no driver’s license and expired registration.

Deputies stopped a gray Mitsubishi with an obscured license plate at 7:40 p.m. Oct. 24 on Haywood Street. They noted both occupants to be moving around a lot upon stopping, and asked to search the car. They found a bottle cap with a cotton swab in it; aware the are commonly used to absoyrb narcotics for injection, it was field tested. When it came back positive for methamphetamine, both were placed into handcuffs. Freddie Merced Rodriguez of Como claimed the drug paraphernalia. Both he and driver Enrique Ortiz-Montoya were transported to the county jail. Merced, 47, of Como was booked in on two speeding warrants, one warrant for fictitious license plate, one for operating an unregistered vehicle and one for possession of drug paraphernalia. Ortiz- Montoya, 49, of Como was charged on two Wood County warrants for failure to maintain financial responsibility and operating an unregistered motor vehicle, as well as an expired driver’s license charge.

Deputies located Dayton Lee Henry at his FM 269 residence and took the 22-year-old Saltillo man into custody at 5:22 p.m. on a Lamar County warrant for violation of probation on a theft of property valued at $2,500 or more but less than $30,000.

Wednesday, Oct. 25

„

Police responded at 9:26 a.m. Oct. 25 to a disturbance in progress on Whitworth Street. Two people were reported to be fighting in the road, and a firearm was reported to be involved. Police found two males in the road and patted them down. A firearm was found in the front waistband of Damiyon Keyshawn Dugan’s pants. The 22-year-old was arrested on a Class A misdemeanor unlawful carrying of a weapon Charge.

Police responded at 10:24 a.m. Oct. 25 at a West Industrial Drive apartment complex to a disturbance reported to stem from a home burglary reported to have occurred around 2 p.m. Oct. 24. One person reportedly had a firearm pointed at another. Upon arrival, officers began investigating the claim. Kendrick O’Keith Willis Jr., the resident, allegedly stole items during the alleged burglary. They were granted permission to search the residence and car for the allegedly stolen property. The items in question were found in the Dodge Charger. He walked to a car nearby where an officer waited while a detective attempted to secure a warrant. The 24-year-old told the officer he wanted to talk to the investigator who had been there earlier. He admitted to the officer that he had stolen property, retrieved it and was taken into custody. Willis reportedly confessed and was taken to jail. The alleged victim claimed one of the five pairs of shoes taken was still missing. He admitted they were still at the residence. The officer and detectives retrieved the pair of shoes. Willis was booked into jail at 11:55 a.m. Oct. 25 on a second-degree felony burglary of a habitation charge.

Officers contacted Carrie Renee Bates at 11:35 p.m. after observing her walking on Alabama Street. While talking to her, police observed signs of intoxication. The 44-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was unable to complete a horizontal gaze nystagmus test and was taken into custody just before midnight Oct. 25 on a public intoxication charge, according to arrest reports.

Amanada Jo Williams was taken into custody in Winnsbor by Winnsboro Police and transported to State Highway 11 east at the county line. The 43-yearold Mount Pleasant woman was transported by a Hopkins County deputy to the county jail, where she was booked in at 11 a.m. on one warrant each for failure to maintain financial responsiblity and criminal trespassing, and two illegal dumping warrants.

„ Deputies took Angel Alfonso Valle, 26, of Terrell into custody at 5:11 p.m. in the District Courtroom on a warrant for violation of proabation on a possessin of controlled substance charge.

James Calvin Sampy, 55, of Sugarland was taken into custody at 8:16 p.m. in the district courtroom and jailed on order revoking his bond on a fraud charge.

Kenneth Douglas Rosenbaum, 62, of Hot Springs, Ark., was taken into custody at 5:32 p.m. on Interstate 30 at mile marker 13. Deputies were alerted the man had a warrant. They stopped his vehicle, identiied him, confirmed the FBI-Dallas detainer and took him into custody on an enticement of a minor charge, according to arrest reports.

Thursday, Oct. 26

Sulphur Springs police located Christopher Leon Huddleston at 9:39 a.m. on North Jackson Street, where he had allegedly been hiding in a closet. The 44-year-old Sulphur Springs man was jailed on a parole violation warrant. While at the residence, the officers also took Constance Jean Huie into custody on a third-degree felony hindering apprehension charge. She'd been contacted Wednesday regarding Huddleston's whereabouts. She claimed not to know if he was in the house or not. She admitted they'd been in a relationship but claimed not to have seen him in a couple of days. She was instructed to contact authorities if she saw him, because of the warrant. On Thursday, she claimed not to know if Huddleston was in the room she'd just walked out of or not. After seeing him walk out of the closet, they took the woman into custody for hindering apprehension, police alleged in arrest reports.

Evelyn Dawn Stegall was taken into custody on Fisher Street at 11:38 a.m. by police. The 55-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was booked into the county jail on a warrant for theft of property.

Deputies transported Kristen Noel Roberson from Dallas County jail to Hopkins County jail, where the 32-year-old Cooper woman was booked in on a possession of a controlled substance charge.

Police took Stewart Worth Peterson, 38, of Sulphur Springs into custody at 4:40 p.m. on Church Street at Middle Street on a warrant for theft of property. He was stopped for a traffic violation and found to be wanted.

Ryan Tyler Manuel, 32, of Sulphur Springs was taken into custody at 12:28 p.m. on College Street on two continuous sexual abuse of a child-forcible rape warrants.

„ Joshua David Petty, 32, of Cumby was taken into custody on FM 499 by deputies on an assault warrant.

„

Jose Arturo Caal-Bol, 21, was taken into custody on a driving while intoxicated warrant at 8:27 p.m. on Interstate 30 west.

„

Police responded at 8:02 p.m. Oct .26 to a report of an assault on Russell Drive. Upon arrival they were told the 21-year-old male resident had assaulted his girlfriend by kicking her on the foot during an altercation and making contact with her face, busting her lip. Her foot had bruising, deputies noted in arrest reports. As a result, Ty Thomas Giles was arrested on a warrant for assault causing bodily injury to a famiy member.

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office Communications operators answered 226 non-emergency phone calls and 35 emerency calls during the 24-hour period ending at 5:30 a.m. Friday. Deputies answered 50 calls for service, conducted to inmate transports and made six traffic stops. Nine people were booked into and 12 released from the county jail, which held 185
