Briefs Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and emergency services activity from 5 a.m. April 17 to 5:30 a.m. April 23 included:

Wednesday, April 17

Andrew Michael Magnason was arrested for aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon. The 22-year-old Sulphur Springs man is accused of striking his mother across the forehead with a piece of lumber. His mother was taken to the emergency room. Magnuson claimed he and his mother argued, but couldn't explain how she was injured. While at the residence, deputies observed a piece of lumber with a couple of strands of hair the color of his mother's hair stuck to it. Magnuson was arrested on the felony assault charge.

Deputies and Cumby firefighters responded to a vehicle crash on Interstate 30 west from 5:56 to 6:05 a.m.

Deputies transported Ryan Anthony Jackson from Lauderdale County Detnetion Center in Meridian, Mississippi to Hopkins County jail. the 40-year-old Meridian, Mississippi man was booked into the county jail on a warrant for possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1/1-B conrolled substance.

Thursday, April 18

Deputies responded to a vheicle crash on State Highway 19 at 6:19 a.m.

Communications operators answered 216 non-emergency phone calls and 20 calls for service. Deputies responded to 34 calls for service, transported one inmate between facilities, made 13 traffic stops and filed one offense report. Two people were booked into and five were released from the county jail, which held 210 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Thursdsay.

Friday, April 19

Cassidy Jaye Greenwas arrested at 12:24 p.m. on warrants for failure to maintain financial responsiblity, two for dog at large, and two for parent contributing to truancy.

Hopkins County firefighters responded from 12:54 p.m. to 6:05 p.m. to a structure fire on State Highway 19 north.

Manuel Pastor Andrade turned himself in at the sheriff 's office to serve a commitment on a warrant for violation of probation for possession of 200 grams or more but less than 400 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled sustance.

Danielle Renee Payne was taken into custody at 6:48 p.m. at her residence on a warrant for violation of probation on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge.

Dispatchers answered 221 nonemergency phone calls and 33 calls for service. Deptuies answered 65 calls for service, provided one funeral escort and made 26 traffic stops. Two people were booked into and five were released from the county jail, which held 209 inmates at 5:30 a.m. April 19.

Saturday, April 20

Deputies responded to a report of a tree donw on County Road 3562 at 10:30 a.m.; the debis was removed from the road.

Sheriff's officer also responded to a report of a tree down on FM 2948, 1 mile south of FM 1567 in Como at 11:05 a.m., and a tree down on County Road 1149 at 305 p.m.

Cumby Police responded to a disturbance on Smith Street in Cumby at 12:30 p.m. The feuding parties were separated.

Hopkins County firefighters, sheriff 's deputies, state troopers and Cumby Police responded from 1:22 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. to a vehicle crash on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 112.

Texas Department of Public Safety trooper responded from 1:48 p.m. to 2:01 p.m. to a vehicle crash on Interstatse 30 east near mile marker 120.

Vandalism was reported on FM 69 north in Dike at 3:45 p.m.

A traffic hazard was reported on FM 3134, north of State Highway 154 south at 8:41 p.m.

Dispatchers answered 201 non-emergency phone calls and 41 emergency calls. Sheriff 's officers reponded to 50 calls for service and conducted eight traffic stops. Three people were booked into and three were released from Hopkins County jail, which held 211 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

Theft of approximately $200 worth of merchandise was reported on South Broadway Street

Theft of an iPhone was reported on West Industrial Drive.

Sunday, April 21

Allen Christopher Duenas was stopped on State Highway 11 east at 10:23 p.m. for a traffic violation. Upon contact, deputies smelled a marijuana odor emitting from the Kia. They reported finding a glass pipe of the kind used to smoke marijuana along with several THC pens. The 24-year-old Como man was arrested on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge.

Police responded at 2:17 a.m. to a complaint of a person sleeping on the street on Helm Lane at Cadi Lane. They observed Brandon Jermaine Calhoun walking unsteadily on Helm Lane. He had vomit on his face and a strong alcohol odor emitted from him.When the officer tried to speak with him, the 26-year-old reportedly admitted he was intoxicated. Calhoun was arrested for public intoxication.

Hopkins County firefighters responded to a gas leak or water spill from 9:34 a.m. to 10:21 a.m. on County Road 2415 in Como.

Deputies were dispatcched to a domestic issue on FM 3235 at 12 a.m.

Hopkins County deputies and firefighters, and state troopers responded from 11:39 a.m. to 12:44 p.m. to a vehicle crash on FM 2285 at County R oad 4756.

Hopkins County and Pickton-Pine Forest firefighters and sheriff 's deputies resopnded to a vehicle crash on County Road 2420.

Hopkins County Sheriff's Office communications operators answered 120 non-emergency phone calls and 48 emergency calls. Deputies responded to 52 calls for service, provided two funeral escorts and made three traffic stops during the 24-hour period beginning at 5:30 a.m. April 20. One person was booked into the county jail, which held 212 inmates at 5 a.m. April 21.

Monday, April 22 

Sulphur Springs Police took Christopher Matthew Ledezma into custody at 1:25 a.m. at his Sulphur Springs residence. The 36-year-old was booked into the county jail on an outstanding warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14 years of age, a first degree felony offense.

An abandoned vehicle was impounded on FM 71 west at the county line at 7:16 a.m.

A woman at 10:29 a.m. reported property on County Road 1138 had been damged.

County communications operators answered 84 non-emegency phone calls and 28 emerency calls. Deputies responded to 38 calls for service, provided one funeral escort and made three traffic stops. Two people were booked into and two were released from the county jail which held 212 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.

Deputies were requested to assist Sulphur Springs ISD Police with an incident at the middle school campus. A report is pending further investigation.

A Dike resident reported credit/debit card abuse. The incident was noted in sheriff 's reports.

Hopkins County firefighters and deputies responded from 4:52 p.m to 6:52 p.m. to a vehicle crash on County Road 4777 near FM 71 west. At least one citation was issued.

Michael Lopez Hernandez turned himself in at the sheriff 's office at 4:10 p.m. on a warrant for violation of probation on an online solicitation of a minor charge. The 31-year-old Dallas man was escorted into the county jail on the third-degree felony charge.

Police responded on Beasley Street to a complaint of a civil issue at a Beasley Street address. Charles Chason Williams was reported to have been one of the invididuals involved in the matter. A records check showed the 25-year-old Sulphur Springs man to have an outstanding warrant for his arrst. The officer took Williams into custody on the oustanding Class B misdemeanor possession of two ounces of marijauana charge.

A traffic stop on Arbala Road at Wildcat Way at 2:53 p.m. resulted in Markiston Dawaylon Givens' arrest on two failure to maintain financial responsiblity warrants and one speeding-10% above charge.

Tuesday, April 23

Hopkins County Communications operators answered 166 non-emergency none calls and 21 emergency calls. Deputies anwered 64 calls for service, conducted on inmate tranfer between faciltiies and mace 26 traffic stops.
