Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and emergency services activity over the last week included: Thursday, Jan. 18

„ Criminal mischief was reported in the 1700 block of South Broadway Street Jan. 18.

Friday, Jan. 19

„ Sulphur Springs Police Sgt. Brandon Mayes was made aware of a warrant for Charles Chasen Williams’ arrest. He contacted the 24-year-old Sulphur Springs man at his residence at 7:48 a.m. Jan. 18 and took him into custody on the tampering with or fabricating physical evidence charge.

„ Walmart asset protection staff detained a 32-year-old woman at 3:37 p.m. Friday when she passed all points of sale with numerous items she did not scan at the self checkout. Police reported more than $350 worth of items had not been scanned or paid for. Thus, Danelis Ortiz-Nunez was charged with theft of property valued at $100 or more but less than $750, according to arrest reports.

Saturday, Jan. 20

„ Police responded to a report at 9:58 p.m. of suspicious activity on East Park Street. Upon contact with the individuals at the address, officers obtained their ID information, then relayed it to dispatchers. It was confirmed a protective order had been issued prohibiting 29-year-old Cornelous Dewayne Brooks from being around two people at the location. The Rowlett man was arrested on a Class A misdemeanor violation of protective order charge, according to arrest reports.

„ Police responded at 1:17 p.m. Saturday to a report of a male yelling inside of a West Industrial Drive restaurant; the man’s genitals were reportedly exposed. Officers spoke with business employees as well as others in the restaurant. They received confirmation from someone present that Juan Medrano Tinajera had indeed exposed himself in front of them. Tinajero was arrested for disorderly conduct.

„ The passenger in a vehicle stopped on Mockingbird Lane was found to have warrants for her arrest; 35-year-old Kathryn Ann Baxley was taken into custody at 8:52 p.m. on possession of drug paraphernalia and expired registration warrants, according to arrest reports.

„ Theft of a Sig Sauer .40-caliber handgun with leather holster was reported on Lou Street Jan. 20.

„ Burglary of vehicles was reported on Jan. 20 on Lou Street. A Winchester 12-gauge pump action shotgun was reported stolen from a Ford F150,

Sunday, Jan. 21

„ Police responded to a report of two people “skip-scanning” several items at the self-checkout, then passing all points of sale to exit the store without paying for more than $100 worth of merchandise. Thus, 33-year-old Delfeino Gonzalas Garduna and 28-year-old Fernando Santez- Lavreano were arrested on a Class B misdemeanor theft charge, according to arrest reports. Offense reports show more than $50 worth of consumable goods and less than $100 worth of other merchandise was reported.

„ Saker Aleslam Raad Ahmad Almomani reportedly caught the attention of state troopers by speeding on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 131 in a Honda Odyssey. He too was noted to be improperly using an auxiliary light bar mounted to the front of the van, which was noted to also have had a defective high mounted brake light. He admitted he did not have a driver’s license but did provide an ID card. He too displayed nervous indicators and had a suspicious travel itinerary. Almomani refused to let troopers search the van. Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Deputy Drew Fisher responded with his canine partner; a police dog alerted on the vehicle. A probable cause search of the van revealed a Texas driver’s license with his photo, incorrect font on the card and numbers that came back to someone with a different name. The 21-year-old Allen man was taken into custody at 8:17 p.m. and jailed on a possession of a fictitious driver’s license charge, Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers Cody Sagnibene and Dustin Johnson alleged in arrest reports.

„ Theft of less than $200 worth of consumable goods and other merchandise was reported at Walmart Jan. 21.

Monday, Jan. 22

„ Deputies responded to vehicle crashes on Mockingbird Lane at Posey Lane at 7:48 a.m.

„ An incident report was taken for criminal mischief said to have occurred on FM 269 south in Pickton at 8:54 a.m.

„ Deputies located and took Ronnie Gene Kelley into custody at his residence at 1:26 p.m. on outstanding warrants. The 47-year-old Sulphur Springs man was booked into jail for insufficient bond on injury to a child, elderly or disabled person and obstruction or retaliation charges. The offenses are alleged to have taken place on Jan. 19. Bond was recommended to be set at $250,000 per charge, according to arrest reports.

Tuesday, Jan. 23 „ Deputies responded to vehicle crashes on Hillcrest Drive at 1:06 a.m., County Road 4120 in Cumby at 6:27 a.m. and on State Highway 11 west at 6:44 p.m.

„ Suspicious activity was reported on US 67 west in Brashear at 7:27 p.m. Deputies contacted a 28-year-old Campbell man at the address. A records check showed Aaron Michael Isham to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Isham was taken into custody and jailed on the Sulphur Springs expired registration charge.

„ Officers are looking into a theft reported on Main Street in Sulphur Springs at 9:27 p.m.

„ A vehicle was reported stolen from the Precinct 2 barn on State Highway 11 east at 9:06 p.m. The case was reportedly closed at 4:41 p.m.

„ Suspicious activity was reported on State Highway 19 south in Brashear at 4:08 a.m.

„ Communications operators answered 191 non-emergency phone calls and 50 emergency calls. Deputies responded to 35 calls for service, conducted two inmate transports, made two traffic stops, and filed offense reports for burglary of a building and coin operated machine for the 24-hour period ending at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. One person was booked into and five were released from the county jail, which held 210 inmates.

Wednesday, Jan. 24 „ Deputies located 32-year-old Carlos Uriel Fiscal-Arendariz at his rural Como residence at 2:41 a.m. and took him into custody on a theft warrant. The offense, according to arrest reports, is alleged to have occurred on Nov. 5.

„ A deputy, patrolling on Frisco Street in Cumby at midnight, spotted a man walking in the middle of First Street. When the deputy contacted the man, 45-year-old Christopher Michael Gilbert handed the deputy a cigarette box he removed from his front pocket. The box contained a substance the Cumby man identified as methamphetamine, resulting in his arrest on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty 1 controlled substance charge, the deputy alleged in arrest reports.

„ Hopkins County dispatchers answered 271 non-emergency phone calls and 30 emergency calls, including 44 calls for service. Deputies conducted two inmate transfers, made five traffic stops, and filed offense reports for a stolen vehicle and a controlled substance charge.Two people were booked into the county jail, which held 212 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

„ Sulphur Springs Police contacted Ashton Earl Huie at 10:20 p.m. on North Jackson Street. They smelled alcohol emitting from his breath. The 18-year-old Greenville man admitted to consuming alcohol and was arrested on a minor in consumption charge, according to arrest reports.

„ Ethan John Long was stopped at 5:31 p.m. on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 119 for speeding. The 17-year-old from Sherman was arrested on a Wood County aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury warrant.

„ Sulphur Springs police responded at 3:03 p.m. on Main Street, where a woman was reported to be causing a disturbance in a restaurant. Upon contact, Diana Garcia-Cadena admitted she was drunk. To give credence to her statement, an alcoholic beverage odor did emit from her, she had bloodshot, glassy eyes, and slurred speech. The 45-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was jailed for public intoxication, according to arrest reports.

„ North Hopkins firefighters and deputies responded from 5:51 to 6:39 a.m. to a vehicle crash on County Road 3566.

„ Deputies were notified of crashes at 6:49 p.m. on the south service road at County Road 1111, at 8:47 a.m. on FM 1567 at FM 2981 and at 10:12 p.m. on Interstate 30 west near mile marker 136.

„ Deputies responded at 3:37 p.m. to a disturbance reported on FM 71 east and ended up separating the parties involved in the incident.

„ Deputies and Pickton- Pine Forest firefighters responded to fire on County Road 2338 in Como at 10:51 p.m.

„ Jeremy Lorenzo Rice turned himself in at 5:31 a.m. at the sheriff ’s office and was escorted into the jail. The 28-year-old Dallas man was booked in on the outstanding Milam County warrant for violation of probation on an assault charge, according to arrest reports.

Thursday, Jan. 25 „ County communications operators answered 277 non-emergency calls, 30 emergency calls and 33 calls for service. Sheriff ’s officers conducted two inmate transports and made seven traffic stops. Four people were booked into and 10 were released from the county jail, which held 205 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Thursday.

„ Hopkins County firefighters and deputies respond from 3:44 to 5:05 a.m. on FM 2948 at FM 69 south in Como to a vehicle crash.

„ Theft of more than $300 in cash was reported in the 800 block of Gilmer Street.

„ Deputies observed a Dodge Charger stuck in mud on County Road 4738 at County Road 4805 at 10:39 p.m. A woman at the car was noted to be unsteady on her feet, swaying while standing. She advised the deputies she had been drinking, deputies alleged in arrest reports. Jennifer Lynn Allen was taken into custody. The 49-year-old Dike woman was jailed on a public intoxication charge.

„ Jacob Lee Ball, 28, was arrested on a warrant for violation of probation on a possession of controlled substance charge, according to jail reports.

„ Deputies were dispatched at 9:16 a.m. to a fire alarm at North Hopkins ISD and a residential alarm on FM 2653 south in Cumby at 3:15 p.m.

„ Deputies responded to disturbances on FM 2895 at 1:59 p.m. and FM 71 west at 6:40 p.m.

„ A vehicle crash was reported at 2:25 p.m. on FM 900 north in Saltillo. Officials responded until 2:25 p.m.

„ Suspicious activity was reported on County Road 2383 at 5:04 p.m. and on County Road 4738 at 10:26 p.m.

„ Hopkins County Sheriff 's deputies and firefighters responded to a vehicle crash on State Highwa 19 south from 1:27 a.m. to 1:59 a.m.

Friday, Jan. 27

Communications operators answered 212 non-emergency phone calls and 37 emergency calls. Deputies responded to 42 calls for service, conducted one inmate transfer between facilities, made three traffic stops and filed one offense report. Two peopel were booked into and 11 were released from the county jail, which ehld 201 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Friday.
