SSPD assists US Marshals in arrest

Victor Von Herrmann, 37, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday at his residence on a warrant from the Sacramento, California Police Department on a charge of lewd or lascivious act with a child under age 14.

Officer Sean Hoffman of the SSPD was reportedly asked to transport Herrmann to the Hopkins County jail for the U.S. Marshals after the man was found at the location.

The warrants were confirmed and Herrmann was taken into custody. Bond was set at $600,000, and he remained in jail as of 4 p.m. Wednesday, jail and arrest reports read.

No front license plate leads to possession charge

Zaqurious Lamont Armstrong, 30, of Wolfe City was arrested during a traffic stop at 7:13 p.m. on State Highway 11 west on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance.

Armstrong was reportedly observed operating a vehicle without a front license plate. Sgt. Davis followed behind the man’s vehicle, which quickly turned into a driveway of a residence. Davis made contact and reportedly observed a strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in plain view. Armstrong reportedly gave consent to search the vehicle, and Davis allegedly also located several suspected marijuana cigarettes near the center console.

Multiple torn plastic baggies typically used for the packaging of illegal narcotics were located around the center console and in the driver’s side floorboard. A factory compartment on the top dashboard was opened, and a small, white torn paper bag was found inside, containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.

Open alcoholic containers were also found inside the vehicle, and the license plate on the vehicle was shown to belong to another vehicle.

Man suspected of public intoxication in drive-thru

SSPD officers responded to a call at 11:17 p.m. Wednesday from a Sulphur Springs fast food restaurant regarding a subject passed out in the drive-thru with an open container.

Upon arrival, officers reportedly observed the 33-year-old Sulphur Springs man “asleep” in the driver’s seat with a cold, open container of beer in the console.

The man was awakened and asked to exit the vehicle, where he reportedly performed and failed the horizontal gaze nystagmus test. Officers reported he also emitted the odor of alcohol from his breath, was unsteady on his feet, had bloodshot eyes and spoke with slurred speech. He was believed to be a danger to himself and others and was taken into custody for public intoxication. He was released from jail per a judge’s order Thursday, jail and arrest reports read.

DPS arrests alleged speeder on 3 counts of possession

DPS officers arrested 20-year-old Eduardo Austin Delgado Torres of Sulphur Springs on possession charges after he was stopped for speeding on Interstate 30 west at mile marker 119 at 8:16 p.m. Thursday.

During the stop, officers reportedly observed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Delgado Torres reportedly admitted to being in possession of a marijuana joint and THC edibles, which were located during a probable cause search of the vehicle. He was placed under arrest for possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance.

He then reportedly admitted to having pills, Xanax and hydrocodone, in his sock. He was transported to the Hopkins County jail, where he was found to be in possession of several acetaminophen hydrocodone pills, which are a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, and Xanax, which is a Penalty Group 3 controlled substance.

Delgado Torres was also charged with possession of 1-4 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance and possession of less than 28 grams of a Penalty Group 3 controlled substance, arrest reports read.

 

Jail transfers, other activity

Toni Marie Sherrin, 37, of Gun Barrel City was arrested at the Plain State Jail in Dayton, Texas, and transported to the Hopkins County jail on warrants for felony unauthorized use of a vehicle and felony bail jumping and failure to appear. Bond was set at $20,000 on the vehicle charge and $25,000 on the bail jumping charge, and Sherrin remained in custody as of press time Friday.

Tacka Dashell Gotcher, 32, of Sulphur Springs was arrested at the Hopkins County Courthouse Tuesday following a bond revocation hearing on a 2018 charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, arrest and jail reports read.

Anthony Keith Byrd, 40, of Blue Ridge was released on bond from jail Tuesday. He was arrested Dec. 14, 2018 on charges of possession of more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief of $100 or more but less than $750. Bond was set at $35,000 on the possession charge and $1,000 on the criminal mischief charge, jail reports read.

An 18-year-old Yantis woman was released on bond from jail Tuesday following a Jan. 10 arrest on a charge of possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance. Bond was set at $5,000, jail reports read.

Justin Arley Bryant, 19, of Sulphur Springs was released on bond from jail Wednesday. He was arrested in June on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bond was set at $200,000, jail reports read.

Justin Allen Steele, 31, of Wills Point was released on bond from jail Wednesday. Bond was set at $56,000 on charges of possession of 4-200 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, violation of probation for driving while intoxicated and two counts of burglary of a building, jail reports read.
