Arbala Volunteer Fire Department has received new equipment and an ISO rating that will help some residents save money on insurance.

RATING

Arbala VFD announced that they have received an Insurance Service Office (ISO) rating of a 3 out of a 10. A score of 1 is the best possible score.

According to the department’s social media, the rating is low enough for households within 5 miles of the department to save money on insurance, so residents should reach out to their insurance companies. The rating goes into effect May 1.

GRANT

The VFD also announced that they have received a grant from the Texas Forest Service for new Scott brand air packs with face masks. According to their social media, outfitting a firefighter with appropriate PPE would cost around $10,000.

EQUIPMENT

Arbala VFD has purchased Quint 17, a 2,000 KME 65-foot ladder, and according to social media, will be their “frontline engine for fire protection,” and will replace their 1989 Pierce open cab, which will now be used as their reserve engine.
