3 student artists to exhibit in state show

Three Sulphur Springs students will have their artwork displayed at a statewide art show coming up in March.

The art students all submitted works for the Texas Visual Arts Association 2020 High School Art Competition. Artwork in many different media categories will be on display at the SP/N Gallery on the University of Texas at Dallas campus in Richardson.

Callie Harvey submitted three color pencil and acrylic renderings of two dogs and a horse. Abby Scott submitted two portrait paintings, and Kennedy Lee submitted a graphite drawing of clasped hands.

“This is one of the most competitive art shows in the state each year at UTD,” said Sulphur Springs High School art teacher Dr. Phillip K. Dick. “I won’t know the final numbers for a little while, but there are usually more than 1,200 artworks entered and only 100-140 accepted each year.”

SP/N Gallery hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1 to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays. They are closed Sundays and Mondays.
