The Sulphur Springs ISD School Board approved three new hires at a special meeting Wednesday, Aug. 2.
Allison Duke, who served as former lead counselor and career and technology education director at Daingerfield-Lone Star ISD for the last seven years, was approved to serve as the new academic dean at Sulphur Springs High School.
Deans verify the adequacy of instruction, monitor academic integrity, confer degrees, and are responsible for student recruitment, admission, and academic progress.
The position was created by converting one of the assistant principal slots at Sulphur Springs High School.
Duke, who is starting her 17th year in education, said SSHS Principal Brad Moughon convinced her to come to Sulphur Springs. Duke said she is excited to be here.
Mickey Reynolds, who was a football coach and U.S. History teacher at New Diana ISD, was approved to become one of the assistant principals at SSHS. Reynolds will be starting his 8th year in education.
“I’m very excited to be here in Sulphur Springs,” Reynolds said. “Sulphur Springs is an awesome place to be, and I hope to be here for many years to come.'
Kelly Walker, who served as principal at Hart’s Bluff Junior High and High School for the last 10 years, was approved as the new principal for Bowie Primary School.
“I’m most excited to see the kids,” Walker said. “The staff at Bowie is amazing!”
New teacher orientation will be Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 7-8. Existing staff will report for inservice starting Wednesday, Aug. 9 through Monday, Aug. 21. Students’ first day is Tuesday, Aug. 22.
