Last month, 22 Sulphur Springs High School choir students competed at UIL Regional Solo & Ensemble contest in Marshall. All of the students earned medals, with 19 qualifying for the state contest to be held in late May in Austin.
Trustees recognized seven of those students at Monday’s board meeting.
“All of these students here double qualified, and some of them even triple qualified,” said choir director Beth Cole. “So not only did they learn this ensemble that you're about to hear, they learned another ensemble and performed that at a high level as well. They all received superior division ratings. So, lots of great things are happening in the choir program.”
The group, consisting of senior Micah Boren, junior Celeste McCoy, junior Caitlin Foster, junior Mars Patterson, sophomore Xen Simmons, senior Reese Offutt and senior Jaya Smith performed an a cappella choral selection called “Jenny,” written by Nick Myers.
