The Northeast Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes Heart of a Champion all-star games had fans seeing Red – in a good way.

The Red teams in all three all-star games – football, baseball and softball – had a banner night, sweeping all three of the all-star affairs over the weekend.

FOOTBALL: RED 27, BLUE 0

Team Red took advantage of turnovers from Team Blue to pick up the shutout victory.

Frankie Sanchez (John Tyler) hit two field goals from 40 and 49 yards while Jaylon Jimmerson (Pittsburg) finished with 104 yards passing, 59 yards rushing and a touchdown while notching a 50-yard fumble recovery for another score.

Tristan Driggers (Hallsville) added a 37-yard touchdown run.

Jimmerson was named offensive MVP, and Lindale’s Jaron Covey was named defensive MVP.

The Heart of a Champion awards went to Logan Peters of Longview and Rashaud Johnson of Gladewater.

Representing Hopkins County on the Red team was Cumby’s Jadryen Long. Playing for the Blue team from the county were Austin Dodd and Landry Tyson of Sulphur Springs and Javard McGill of Como-Pickton.

BASEBALL: RED 15, BLUE 5

The Red team jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the game’s first three innings and rolled to a 15-5 victory.

Brandon Quarles (Whitehouse) finished with two steals and Jayden Morgan (Edgewood) had a double and three RBIs.

Sulphur Springs’ Pacen Edwards pitched an inning for the Blue team. Jacob Young (White Oak) led the Blue team with two hits.

Joining Edwards on the Blue team was Wildcat teammate Kaden Argenbright.

SOFTBALL: RED 8, BLUE 4

The Red team jumped out to a 5-0 lead and rode a strong pitching performance from Tatum Goff (Rusk), who threw a total of four scoreless innings: the first three and the ninth.

Sulphur Springs’ Bailey Haggerty was part of the strong pitching performance, joining Goff and Hughes Springs’ Marisol Kennedy as they held the Blue team to six hits.

Ladycat Kelsey Wallace scored a run in the fourth inning for the Blue team. Brinklee Driver, another Sulphur Springs Ladycat, was also part of the Blue team.

ABOUT HEART OF A CHAMPION

More than 70 schools in the Northeast Texas FCA’s 14-county service area were represented during the games.

"The Heart of a Champion All-Star games exist to bring glory to God, to bring recognition to the work of FCA in Northeast Texas and to highlight the talent of the athletes and coaches of Northeast Texas," said Northeast Texas FCA director Robert Bardin.

The all-star baseball and softball games were played at Whitehouse High School after the threat of inclement weather moved the games from UT-Tyler. The football game was played at Earl Campbell Field at CHRISTUS Trinity Mother Frances Rose Stadium.
