Vela set to represent Mexico in CAC games

SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador — Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball alum Celeste Vela competes for Team Mexico at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games this week in San Salvador.

Vela (Guadalajara, Mexico) has been selected to compete for the Mexican National team in the volleyball competition, which begins on Tuesday morning against Puerto Rico.

All teams in the tournament will play in the group stage, followed by semifinals and finals. The gold medal match and the bronze medal match are set to take place on Saturday at the main court in San Salvador.

Vela had a stellar fiveyear career for the Lions that completed last season. She was an All-American, four-time all-conference honoree, the 2021 Lone Star Conference Setter of the Year, and the 2018 Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year.

She is also second alltime in assists, seventh in service aces, eighth in digs, third in sets played, and third in matches played in program history.
