Trojans take down Yantis on road, 9-5

YANTIS — The Cumby Trojans added another win to their win column Thursday by defeating the Yantis Owls 9-5 on the road. After falling behind early, the Trojans battled back to take control of the game, leading to a win.

The first inning saw the Owls strike first, scoring three runs and taking a 3-0 lead. The Trojans would answer with two runs in the second inning. Jace Evans and Channing Herman both scored, as the Trojans trimmed the deficit to 3-2.

The Trojans would pull ahead in the third inning. Jaxon Hudson and Jayden Evans both scored, giving the Trojans a 4-3 lead.

In the fourth inning, the Trojans added on three more runs, as Matt Liston, Lane McCraw, and Hudson all scored to extend Cumby’s lead to 7-3. The Owls would score another run in the fifth inning, bringing the score to 7-4.

The Trojans scored again in the top of the sixth inning when Montgomery Benton scored on a steal of home, making the score 8-4. A run by the Owls in the bottom of the sixth inning brought the score to 8-5.

The Trojans scored once more in the top of the seventh inning when Jace Evans launched a solo home run, bringing the score to 9-5. That score would hold up for the rest of the game, giving the Trojans a victory.

As a team, the Trojans batted 5 for 25 (.200) from the plate. Jace Evans led with three hits, while Herman and Vaughan added one each.

Jace Evans and Hudson were the leading scorers with two runs each. Benton, Herman, Liston, Mc-Craw, and Vaughan added one run each.

Hudson earned the win on the mound. Over 4 2/3 innings, he managed eight strikeouts, allowing only five hits, four earned runs, and three walks. Herman pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in relief, recording four strikeouts and only conceding one walk and one earned run.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 5-7 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Alba to take on the Alba- Golden Panthers.
