Trojans to suspend all athletic activity until Aug. 24

CUMBY—Cumby High School announced on social media Monday that, due to several student athletes showing symptoms of COVID-19, they will be suspend all football, volleyball and cross country practices and games until Aug. 24. 

“This is in an attempt to preserve the health and safety of our students and staff as well as preserve the majority of those seasons,” the post read. “We have not had any positive tests at this time. Again, this [is] to protect our community from any potential spread.”

The Trojans football team, which began practice last week, was set to have their first scrimmage Friday, Aug. 21 against Tom Bean. The Cumby season opener is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 28 at home against Quitman and is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Trojans volleyball team were set to have their season opener Tuesday on the road at Quitman. Cumby was scheduled to have three consecutive home games against Terrell on Friday, Lone Oak on Saturday and Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill on Tuesday, Aug. 18. 

Cumby’s next scheduled game is Tuesday, Aug. 25, at home against Rivercrest. The freshmen team will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity and varsity to follow.
