CUMBY—After having to cancel their first few games of the season, the Cumby Trojans announced via social media Monday they have scheduled their first game of the season for Thursday.

The Trojans will be traveling to Rio Vista to take on the Santo Wildcats. The game will kickoff at 7 p.m.

So far this season, the Trojans have missed their first two games, a home game against Quitman on Aug. 28 and an away game at Celeste on Sept. 4.

Cumby was picked by Dave Campebll’s Texas Football Magazine to be the winners of District 9-2A. Cumby went 8-4 a season ago, including a 50-28 win over Simms Bowie in the opening round of the playoffs. Running back Jacob Demidio was predicted by the magazine to be the Offensive MVP; last season, Demidio rushed for over 1,400 yards.

After their game Thursday, Cumby will return to their original schedule. They will have a road game at Alba-Golden on Sept. 18 before hosting Trenton on Sept. 25 for their homecoming game.

After that, the Trojans will begin district play. Their district schedule is:

• Friday, Oct. 9, Cumby @ Boles at 7:30 p.m.

• Friday, Oct. 16, Cumby @ Maud at 7:30 p.m.

• Friday, Oct. 23, Clarksville @ Cumby at 7:30 p.m.

• Friday, Oct. 30, Cumby @ Simms Bowie at 7:30 p.m.

• Friday, Nov. 6, Detroit @ Cumby at 7:30 p.m.

Any updates to the Trojans schedule will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram.
