EMORY — The Cumby Trojans earned a dominant win in their regular season finale Monday, run-ruling the Fruitvale Bobcats 12-2 at Rains High School. After a slow first inning, the Trojans’ offense started clicking and never looked back, leading to a dominant win.

The game was originally meant to be played at Scott Mabe Field at Ben K. Green Memorial Park, but was moved to Rains High School due to wet field conditions.

Prior to the game, the Trojans celebrated the careers of their two seniors — Matt Liston and Lane McCraw — as it was Senior Night for Cumby.

The first inning would be a scoreless one, as both defenses played well to start the game. The Trojans would break the scoreless tie in the second inning when Jaxon Hudson scored on a wild pitch, giving Cumby a 1-0 lead.

The Trojans would continue to play well in the third inning. They would extend their lead when Jace Evans hit a two-run insidethe- park home run, where Jayden Evans also scored, to extend their lead to 3-0.

The Bobcats would get on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of runs, trimming the deficit to 3-2. The Trojans would respond with nine runs in the bottom of the third inning. Gunner Campbell and Chayton Vaughan scored two runs each, while Liston, Jayden Evans, Jace Evans, Hudson, and McCraw added one run, raising the Trojans’ lead to 12-2.

After the Bobcats were held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, the game ended, as the Trojans capped off a 12-2 win.

As a team, the Trojans batted 9 for 21 (.429) from the plate. Jace Evans, Mc-Craw, and Vaughan led with two hits each, while Campbell, Jayden Evans, and Hudson added one hit a piece.

Campbell, Jace Evans, Jayden Evans, Hudson, and Vaughan shared the title of leading scorer with two runs each. Liston and Mc-Craw both scored one run each.

Channing Herman earned the win on the mound. Over three innings, he tallied eight strikeouts, allowing only four walks, two earned runs, and one hit.

Jayden Evans pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, striking out three batters and walking two. Jace Evans pitched the final 2/3 of an inning, recording two strikeouts.

With the win, the Trojans end the regular season at 2-6 in district and 8-11 overall. They will now focus on the upcoming playoffs.

The Trojans faced off against the Ore City Rebels in the Bi-District round of the playoffs Friday at Winnsboro High School. At the time of press, no score has been reported for that game.
