CUMBY-The Cumby Trojans hosted Quinlan Boles Friday for their Homecoming game. Entering the night 0-3, the Trojans were looking to treat their Homecoming crowd with their first win of the season.

Cumby wasted no time at all building a lead for themselves, as they found the end zone in the opening seconds of the game. With just 14 seconds off the clock, senior wide receiver Justin Demidio gave the Trojans an 8-0 lead.

Keeping their momentum going, the Trojans then forced Boles to punt on a three-and-out, looking to add to their lead. Unfortunately Cumby would turn the ball over on downs, leading to six points from Boles to cut the lead to 8-6 with 6:07 left in the first quarter.

Cumby would go on to turn the ball over on downs once again on their own 43-yard line, giving Boles the chance to take the lead. Their defense came up huge, however, as they were able to take an interception to the house late in the first quarter, pushing their lead to 14-6.

Each team found the end zone just once in the second quarter, with both teams failing to convert on their twopoint attempts. Both teams ended the half by punting to each other, as the Trojans led 20-12 at the end of the first half.

Boles got the ball to start the second half and put together a solid drive, resulting in eight points to tie things up at 20- 20. Boles took their first lead of the game after recovering a fumble on the Cumby 25-yard line. Just one minute later they scored, taking a 26-20 lead late in the third quarter.

In the opening seconds of the fourth quarter it was Demidio who once again scored for Cumby, tying the game up at 26-26 with 11:55 left to play.

Unfortunately for the Trojans and their home crowd, it was the last time they would put points on the board. They threw a pair of interceptions in the final frame as Boles went on to score two more times, winning the game by a final score of 40-26.

For Cumby the loss drops them to 0-4 on the year and 0-1 in district play. Boles continues to stay hot on the year, improving to 4-2. The Trojans will try to pick up their first win and improve to 1-1 in district play with yet another home game this week. They host 4-2 Maud Friday with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

The Trojans have just one more home game after Friday’s contest, which will be Friday, Oct. 29 against Simms Bowie. That one is also set for 7:30 p.m.
