Faircloth, Moore lead with two goals each
LINDALE — The Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcats earned their second consecutive Bi-District championship Tuesday following a 5-1 win over the Chapel Hill Lady Bulldogs at Eagle Stadium in Lindale. A pair of early goals would help lay the groundwork for the victory, as the Lady Wildcats eliminated the Lady Bulldogs for the second year in a row.
The first half started as a defensive battle, with both teams failing to capitalize on scoring opportunities. That would change with 25:42 remaining, as Rowan Faircloth scored a goal to give the Lady Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
From there, it would take a while for another score to occur. Then with 2:36 left in the half, Faircloth scored her second goal of the game, bringing the score to 2-0. That score would remain the same going into halftime.
During the second half, the Lady Wildcats continued to outplay the Lady Bulldogs. They would score again with 31:39 left in the game when Jolea Moore scored a run, raising their lead to 3-0.
A little over 10 minutes later, Haylee Shultz scored a goal with 20:57 remaining, bringing the score to 4-0. It only took another minute for the Lady Wildcats to score again, when Moore scored her second goal of the game with 19:31 left, bringing the score to 5-0.
Though the Lady Bulldogs avoided a shutout with a late goal with only four seconds remaining, the game’s outcome was already decided, as the Lady Wildcats capped off a 5-1 victory.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 23-3 on the season and earned a Bi-District championship. They resumed action Thursday, squaring off against the Palestine Lady Wildcats in the Area round of the playoffs at Eagle Stadium in Lindale.
